Accessibility
This site is built to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboards, and magnification. If something does not work for you, tell us and we will fix it.
What we have done
This website was built with accessibility in mind rather than added afterwards. Specifically:
- Every page uses proper heading structure and landmark regions, so screen reader users can navigate by heading rather than reading top to bottom.
- All functionality is reachable by keyboard, and focus is clearly visible as you move through the page.
- A “skip to main content” link appears at the top of every page for keyboard users.
- Text colours were checked against their backgrounds to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio.
- Pinch-zoom is enabled. Text can be enlarged in your browser without content breaking or disappearing.
- Images that convey meaning have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Form fields and the BMI calculator have properly associated labels, and results are announced to screen readers as they update.
- Data tables use row and column headers so their structure is conveyed correctly.
- Video players are keyboard operable.
- The site is responsive and usable on a phone, at large text sizes, and at high zoom.
Our target is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
Where we know we fall short
Two things are worth stating honestly. Our videos are hosted by a third party and may not all carry captions or transcripts. And embedded content such as the map on our contact page is controlled by another company, so its accessibility is not entirely in our hands.
If you need the content of any video, call the office and we will go through it with you directly.
Accessibility in the office
Beyond the website: if you need a sign language interpreter, materials in another format, extra time, or any other accommodation for your visit, call ahead and we will arrange it at no cost to you. See our nondiscrimination notice for more.
Tell us if something does not work
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to know, and we will do our best to fix it or get you the information another way.
