Dr. David Geller, a native of Louisville, was appointed as the original medical director of the Norton Suburban Bariatric Surgery Program. The program became an ASBS Center of Excellence. Dr. Geller received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bioengineering at University of Illinois, working with cutting edge technology before attending University of Louisville Medical School. During residency, at Michigan State University, he trained with national leaders in bariatric surgery. Additional advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery training was completed at Ohio State University. He started his practice in Louisville’s St. Matthews area and is the proud father of his three children.

Since starting in practice, in 2001, Dr. Geller has attained expertise in additional procedures, and as of 2017, has completed about 3000 bariatric surgeries, including more than 1500 gastric band surgeries, 800 gastric bypass surgeries and 300 sleeve gastrectomies, with complication rates much lower than published national standards. Dr. Geller was the first surgeon in the Norton system to regularly perform sleeve gastrectomy.

Celisse, who has a background of over 20 years experience in surgery and also works with insurance and scheduling, completes our bariatric team.

The office hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm weekdays. After hours, for urgent medical issues, you may reach the doctor through the main office telephone number, (502) 893-7151. The office is located on the Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital campus in Plaza I in suite 1E. Plaza I is the only office building not visibly connected to the hospital. (There is an underground tunnel connecting it to the hospital)
